Limited Lens Prices - up 37%??

I have been monitoring the 31mm Limited lens price on B&H to purchase in December, las t week they were $964.95 - today $1299.95!

What has happened? Have I missed some breaking financial news?

Add to cart for lower price = $964.xx

Better buy it now, though.

I have seen many such questions over the weekend. Perhaps the new price is looming...

they are probably running out of old stock. Since the new order prices are higher they will need to put up the retail prices too...
$~950 is still cheap. In UK 31ltd is £1095 (cheapest new, I know of!!!)

Gee, that's worse than our prices Peter.
Locally it's available for A$ 1280-1460.
Expensive in any person's language, but >1000 pounds is robbery!

Just out of curiosity - what's stopping people from Australia or UK from buying from the US? When I shopped around for FA 31mm, I even considered Japan if it were cheaper. It finally came to Adorama, and I pulled the switch (yet to get my second mortgage!). Not sure if it is the customs or otherwise.

If over $1,000 you will cop 10% gst on the importation of the lens and possible customs fee ($60)...

so factor in that and shipping and the difference between US$964 and AUD$1,300 isn't that high to risk warranty issues..

Other lenses are a different story I got 15/4 from Adorama, it was about AUD$640 to get it here, local price is about the same as a FA31 ($1,300 or higher)..

well the lens prices here in UK just went stupid. I remember I could have gotten brand new FA50/1.4 for tad under 150GBP year back. Now??? 250 for used copy in EX++. And limiteds just went crazy. 43 goes for 750 and 77 bit more....
anyway, good to know that customs is 60USD. How about the 10%?? Do I pay it for under 1000USD or is that price rannnge for free?
Thanks

The current price for the DA 70mm is $548 and FA 77mm $779 shipped. That is the closed together in price that I've seen those two limited lenses. That makes the case stronger for the 77mm.

sorry I was being a bit vague.. lol.. thats to bring one in to Australia other countries will be different..

70 and 77: I guess it depends what you want it for? they do both have advantages, they are both optically very good in slightly different ways, the 77 of course is a fantastically built lens and FF, the DA70 is smaller, lighter and definately faster focusing..

I forgot about the faster focusing. I was thinking about the FA having the aperture ring and being able to use in on my MZ-3 and SuperProgram more effectively.

Edit:

The Focal length and aperture ring has always steered me towards the FA 77, but sharpness, focus speed and price have steered me towards the 70mm.

Lucky bastards. Here everything over 30 euros is taxed and at about twice what you pay.

The FA 31 in China is round 8000 RMB (about $1200) , I hope the price will not be risen in my country. many of us chose samsung lens instead of pentax because of the price.
