Any difference in reversing & stacking rings?

I'm looking to experiment with a reversing adapter / ring & a lens stacking ring to take some close-up shots. Is there anything I need to be aware of with these rings or will any one of these I find on ebay work well? I ask because when looking into the M42 adapter there was the issue with the non Pentax adapters having the wider flange prohibiting infinity focus.

Anything I need to know about these other rings before I pick them up?

I'd be interested in what others think. I have several step-up rings along with a reversing ring and ended up buying whatever B&H had cheapest. Out of 5 rings I've only had trouble with one - one of them doesn't thread very well. The cheap rings are lightweight, I guess aluminum, and I'm very gentle with them as I would guess they would be easy to strip. I've always wondered what I would find if I bought one of the more expensive ones, whether they were worth the extra cost.
