Problem with SMC-Pentax FA 28-105mm F4-5.6

I have a SMC-Pentax FA 28-105mm F4-5.6 lens that I purchased on eBay, and which worked perfectly when it arrived. But after using it for about a month, I have problems with the zoom.

When I attached it to my K10D and try to zoom, it keeps wanting to go back to 28mm.

If I hold it at anything greater than 28mm, it still takes great shots, but as soon as I take my fingers off the zoom, it automatically returns to 28mm! It's becoming a pain in the ass. Maybe I have done something wrong to it, but I can't think what. It does have a slider on one side of the lens that puts it in different modes (auto and manual I think, although as it came without a manual, I am only hazarding a guess) plus a round flat button that appears to do very little *lol*.

Help!!!

OK. It sounds like what you have there is a 'power-zoom lens' (This is a feature I never understood the sense of. ) I would guess what it's doing is returning to the most compact setting when you let go. I'm not sure how you'd turn it off, but you may have inadvertently turned it on somewhere along the line.

If itis a power zoom, you adjust that by sliding a ring along the lens axis - the words "power zoom" appear. Maybe slide it out, then back in?

Sounds like your button may be broken. That button should turn off the power zoom. If I remember right, mount the lens, turn on the K10, slide the switch ( you may have to hold the switch ) and push the button.
