Price for SMCP-DA 40mm

Question for those of you who currently own the DA 40mm, f/2.8 or plan to buy it. I just noticed on both B&H and Adorama, the lens is listed at $499.95, before a discount of $160 when "added to cart" (plus free shipping), for a net cost of $339. I checked the Market Place and saw where a used one was listed at $300.00, but there is no way to tell what the actual selling price was. So, does this sound like a good deal, and is there much difference between the sellers? I think this is about to be my early Christmas present. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

The $300.00 certainly isn't a bad price, but I just checked the Market Place and I don't see it.
Wherever you buy it, I'm sure you will love it. I don't use mine very much, but very time I do I look at the pictures and wonder why I don't use it more.
Just about everything I have came from B&H. You couldn't ask for a more reputable outfit.

Thanks for your comment, and I guess I was confusing in the OP. I found the $300 price in the "sold" part (none in the "for sale" part). I was trying to see what DA 40's had sold for to see if the $339 current price was good. I think it is, and I will probably order it today.

I just ordered. I can't find a better price than b&h.
And there seems no deal on pentax lens during holidays.

I should have purchased it when it was under $250

the last thing I thought of at the time was this crazy price increase

$339 for the DA 40mm is a great price.

You don't want to know how much I paid for my used but almost new DA40

Normal used price is about $250 - $300. Assuming the used lens is like new, you still lose the warranty (up to 2 years: 1 from Pentax and 1 from your credit card if you pay with AmEx or gold/platinum VISA/MC). Note that the warranty from your CC includes accidental damages, loss due to theft or natural disaster, .... These are not covered by warranty from Pentax.

$339 is the best price I could find when I bought mine, and I live in NY state so I had to pay tax.

Still a bargain, though, and worth every penny.

I ordered it this morning from Adorama and got an email this afternoon saying it has already shipped. Thanks for everyone's input.

A year or so ago, when I purchased my da40 here on pf, they were going for ~$200-210 used/excellent. Got mine for $180 + shipping (less than $200 total). Can't believe these prices. I think I got a deal.

Yeah, I got lucky and picked a like-new copy up for $245 about a month ago. I've been really happy with it. I almost didn't buy it at the time because I already had the DA35, FA35 and FA50 at the time and figured there was no point in a 40mm lens that was no faster than the others. Glad I let LBA take over.

I too love my da 40mm limited, but was shocked when I first learned how bad it's back focusing problem was. As a K200D owner it required a trip to Pentax repair. Until that time I could never shoot below F 5.6. Now F2.8 is a good friend. Similar problems anyone?

If you happened to purchase a Pentax camera recently, make sure to check the rebate card that came within the package - you might be able to get some money back for purchasing the DA40.
