Another vote for the Tamron 70-200/2.8. I have the DA*16-50, DA*50-135, and DA*300 as well, but I find that I'm leaving the 50-135 home more often in favor of the Tamron, and it's a good fit as far as focal lengths go. The 50-135 might be slightly better for IQ, but not by much!

Try to get your hands on a DA*60-250 and try it. Yes it is expensive but there is a reason for that. If you have the DA*300, you obviously do not baulk at paying for quality.

Gotta admit that the 50-135 would be a nice walk around lens. lighter and smaller than the 70-200 (which does get tiring on a 2+ hour hike)

So you do have the setup from 16 to 300mm, in DA*'s. I think the 50-135 is getting rave reviews and that would be an excellent choice. However, since I would most often carry 2 cameras and one extra lens, this is the most suitable setup for me:
DA*16-50
DA*300
and one "in the middle" so it could cover a broad range of focals, such as your Tamron 70-200 f2.8.
Only small glitch: the Tammy is not waethersealed but that is not really a big deal.

Thanks for the reply.

Oggy,
I took a good and serious look into this DA*60-250 and in spite of its great attributes, I find myself in a situation where I can't fork $1899 Cdn. If I could find one "on sale" in the used department (which is unlikely), that would be a good choice.
On the other hand, the Tamron ($1000 Cdn) also gets great reviews and it is also quite a bit faster (f2.8), and almost covers the "missing link" in my set up.
Thanks for the reply.

But I am quite used to carry a fair amount of gear with me, so that wouldn't be a problem. Admittedly, the 50-135 is very compact and with great IQ.
