I'd be curious to see the results if anyone has tried stacking the 1.7x and 1.4x on the k-7 with ANY F2.8 lens. I'm pretty sure that the K-7 would autofocus that combo but I wonder if the image would look OK?
Let's see if someone can make the test for us

I stacked a 1.5x kenko and the 1.7x afa on my DA300 f4 with the k20d and it worked, I'll try to find the shot after work. I gotta go back to work.

Here's a couple with the da300mm f4 and stacked 1.5x kenko and 1.7x afa with the k10d. I remember it auto-focusing but had to use 1250 iso. I got a 2x tamron sp teleconverter and tried it with my FA300 f2.8 and it seemed to work ok, but results were inconclusive as the lens was soft even with no tc.

Wow, Tom.
You got the DA 300 to AF with those two TCs together?
That's over 2.5 stops light reduction! Well done.

Thanks Ash, I was just fooling around to see if it would work when I happened to see the mother Fox and 2 young. I didn't really use the combo much because I thought the 1.7x and cropping if necessary was probably as good.

If someone has a FA 300/2.8 lens, please put photos here, I want to see how does its AF works and what's the IQ. And photos must be taken with 2.8 aperture.

Um, I've seen borno's photos and, on that basis, would tend to accept his judgement with regard to that copy of the lens.

I had a FA*300 f2.8 (sold my motorcycle to buy it) and it was soft even stopped down. I sent it in twice and pentax wouldn't touch it, they told me it was a film lens and may not work well on digital. I was pretty PO'ed and had to trade it, I can try to find my disc of images later. I had to get a canon 300mm, just got it last week and am very happy with it. I would have been happy to have my pentax lens adjusted, but they weren't willing (or capable) I would say be warned if you need service, you might not get it.
My FA*600/4 was soft with my K10D. No other lens was. I sent it in and got it adjusted but no effect. Strangely, when I upgraded to the K-7 the lens became sharp. I have no idea as to why the FA* lens was incompatibe with my K10D. With any other lens there was no difference between the K10D and the K-7 in terms of lens performance.

Why? The reason you see very few images at 2.8 is that the DOF is too shallow to be much useful. Most of the time people want all of the subject in focus. Not just the eyes....

My FA*300mm f2.8 needed +10 ma on the k20d, but still wasn't sharp, even manually focused. Funny thing was, it looked just as good with the 1.7x afa wide open as it did without it. I'm sure it was just a bad copy and they just blew me off, so I had to go elsewhere or I would still be shooting pentax. A little good service makes a big difference to me.

These are all wide open at f2.8. A*300. The extra weight of a lens capable of 2.8 is a downside.....you might as well use it to it's advantage.
