As it's a self drive road trip, I would carry it all, I mean everything, you can always find extra room in the car for camera kit, right.

@Kerrowdown - would love to take everything but I have a 1200 km plane ride to do before boarding the car.

After a trial pack -
-Shoulder bag with K20 for low key and convenience, no grip, narrow neckstrap
-netbook (kept in other luggage mostly,
-16-45 - has a reasonable macro facility and is plenty wide and sharp, I find I just reach for it when I need speed of usage - point about getting left behind while changing lenses is taken as I have had same experience before.
-50-200 after reviewing days when I have had Tokina on the camera I find I am very often at 200 or less, and all metal is just too bulky and heavy, Point about having extra reach is taken Lowell but I just don't think it will be needed very often.
- Still pondering the prime - the little M50 is tempting cos of size and aperture speed - the Tak 35 is even smaller and has hyperfocal values marked and would make a very easy drop in the bag for those snapshop occasions. Viv 28 is also tempting - love the bokeh and sharpness and no need for an adaptor and is reasonably quick at f2.8. Point taken about the 105 - it is just a bit narrow on the K20D. Don't really expect to be off doing artsy shots by myself - landscapes mostly so no need for the specialist glass.
Hmmmm
-Gorilla pod is a great idea - slightly early christmas present...
-Flash is just too bulky and means another battery charger in the bag with the mobile phone car charger, the mobile phone wall charger, the netbook charger and the camera battery charger.

Still thinking obviously- so if anyone else wants to chime in. No I am not worrying to much just want to maximise the opportunities that may present themselves. Maybe just take the Viv 28 as it is the closest to Normal on the K20 and forget everything else

I would (in blue)...

Camera K20D - a given
Take Vert grip or not for extra battery and card storage? - I would ... almost never comes off my camera
Neck strap or Hand grip? - Neck strap
External flash? - yes

Bag choices: Average sized shoulder bag, AW200 Sling, Naneu Pro K3L?
Airtravel to WA is necessary. Naneu doesn't conform to carry on restrictions - whatever best fits what you end-up taking
Mount: Tripod, Trekpod or nothing? - Trekpod

Lens Choices:
Tak 35/3.5, 50/1.4, 50 macro/4, 105/2.8, 135/3.5, 200/4 - I would take 50/1.4
M 50/2
DA 16-45, 50-200 - DA 16-45 for convenience when you want only one lens on your person

Vivitar K28/2.8 CF - yes to this ... I wish I had one!
Tokina ATX 80-400 - I never travel w/o something that goes really long
SK 360/5.5

I have some ideas but just wondered what my fellow pentaxians would do???
That would be me. Enjoy your time away.

So I am back and what did I take?
K20D with Pentax DA16-45 for walk around, Tokina 80-400, Super Tak 50mm 1.4, Medium sized plastic travelling tripod, Net book

Used all the above lenses but not the tripod. Took about 1000 images and did basic culling using the netbook - downloaded every day or two. As expected there were days of no camera use but then some days were high use - limited time only for photospecific forays but lots of touristy images. Examples below
16-45

80-400

and

Takumar 50/1.4 @ F4

Thank you for everyone's contributions - had most options covered under the circumstances
