It sounds like one those cheap Cosina zoom with the Voigtlander brand. Nothing like the Cosina-Voigtlander SL primes.

Yep. Your are right. Subsequently found a link, and it is a cheap plastic lens.

an apochromatic zoom lens that goes down to 28mm?

now, that's a novel idea. I was under the impression from lens manufacturers that it is impossible to incorporate apochromatics in lenses shorter than 100mm.

Well, may be. But you can hardly call a lens 28-200 (Apo only 100-200)? It is just, that an apochromatic design does not make much sense at short focal lengthes, as chromaticism only gets visible with longer focal lengthes.

then why, god why, didn't pentax make the DA*200mm f/2.8 apochromatic? - that lens has the most horrible -green/purple fringed bokeh of any lens I have EVER SEEN. Apochromatics would have gone a long way towards correcting that kind of chromatic error in the lens.

200mm is commonly be seen as the limit, which necessitates APO design to suppress secondary colours. Why Pentax stuck to the old FA lens design is there secret. May be just economic thinking or pressures?
