I have no idea. Try looking at the lens reviews section.

I don't know if it improves sharpness. The common knowledge is that controlling flare improves contrast - which you can even bring back in post processing but having it there in the first place is always better. And the part about being close to the border made no sense to me.

Hi SOldBear, thanks! I remember I saw your post some time back before I had the FA50, this looks cool, I ordered 49-37mm and 37-30.5mm step down ring as you said in your post. I am going to try this out

Thanks blende8, I am going to try put my 50-200mm WR lens hood to try it out.

kristoffon, thanks for clarify that!

raymeedc, I was also tempted to get the rubber hood!

Well, I am sure I can try out all these options when I get more 50mm lens. LOL

Thanks guys!

I no longer own the lens, but I used a standard collapsable rubber hood on mine for the years I did own the lens. Worked perfectly well and you can add filters to the hood, which makes it easier to change filters as you don't need to remove the hood to change one.

NaCl("standard" hood works fine, and inexpensive)H2O

check out this thread

there is a spreadsheet for lens hood calculation linked to it

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/81936-appropri...150-2-8-a.html

I have checked the calculation with some hoods I have and can advise the following.

For lens diameter use the actual diameter of the front element

For the hood length, remember this includes the recess of the front element of the lens in the lens body.

With these two considerations the calculations are pretty good.

THere are lot';s of different hoods available, in both metal andl plastic on line and at B&H or Adorama.

Yep, in fact you can't even use the Pentax rectangular hood with a CPL, it won't clamp on. I carry one 49mm collapsible rubber hood for all my primes (28, 35, 50, 100mm).

I assume he means the front element is very close to the front end of the lens housing. It's only recessed about 1/16".

The F50/1.7 is going to be a little better just because it has a smaller front element that's more deeply recessed into the lens. I measured about a half-inch/12mm on mine. I don't have an FA50/1.4 to measure. Of course, even a small hood will be an inch deep, so a half-inch is not a big deal.

This hood works perfectly on the FA 50mm (and any Pentax 50mm with a 49mm filter thread). I'm 99.999% sure it will also work on the FA 43 Ltd.

All assuming you're using this lenses on an APS-C body, of course.

Ok, SOldBear... I got my two step down rings.... unfortunately the 37-30.5mm that I get:

New 37-30.5mm Metal Step Down Ring 37mm-30.5mm 37-30.5 - eBay (item 110409214950 end time Dec-27-09 03:46:02 PST)

cannot fit in the cap of a flim case cap.... I guess I got the wrong one.
For those to is going to try SOldBear solution, make sure you get the correct ring. Overall they look nice on the lens though....

I am going to get a rubber hood instead.

I think the ring is correct. I bought the same one.

What film cartridge cap did you try? The ones I use are from Fujifilm. If you have a Costco nearby, ask the photo counter. They may have some for you.

Even if you can't find the film cartridge cap that fits, buy the 30mm or 30.5mm cap from FleaBay. It shouldn't cost more than a few $.

Ah, I have plenty: I was shooting a lot of Neopan in recent years. I could just drop a couple in an envelope and mail em.
