Anyone planning to purchase the D-FA 100mm f2.8 WR macro

There seems to be some buzz around the announcement in both forums, but not a major enthusiasm to actually buy it. I was about to pull the trigger on a 100'ish macro, and the quick-shift will come in handy. MSRP of $850 hopefully will be ~$700 or less in street price, if so I most likely will get it. i've heard the current D-FA macro has an MSRP of $850'ish as well, and if this is true then the price ain't too bad and the street price will indeed be much lower.

I wonder whether anyone else is interested in it.

I'm definitely interested, although the $850 MSRP does put me off just a bit. But considering it is basically the 100mm macro dressed in Limited clothing, maybe it's ok.

The two things I like about it are the build quality and small-ish size. Looking at the specified dimensions, it is basically the same size as an F/FA 135mm F2.8 lens (it's actually a couple mm thinner). Now, I already have F100/2.8 and A100/2.8 macros, both of which are fat giants compared the my F135/2.8. However, they do not require an external hood b/c of the recessed optics, so taking the hood along may actually make it larger. Now if I forego the hood, it would be a great compact 100mm macro. I probably would have bought the current DFA 100mm macro for current digital coatings, but I'm a sucker for nice feeling optics, and I didn't want much plastic.

My F100 macro has been serving the purpose very well, but I find I tend to not take it places b/c of it's girth and weight. Might end up getting rid of my current two 100mm macros and replacing it with this new beast. I'd love to see it mounted on a K-7 just to see what it looks like. Even though my F100 is fat, it sure does look good on my camera (at least IMO).

Oh, and the WR, Digital Coatings, and Quickshift are all nice too. Can't say I'm a huge fan of the look without the aperture ring though. Kinda saddens me but doesn't really make a different b/c all my lenses are set to 'A' anyways, unless M series or older.

Since I paid just over $500 USD for the d fa 100mm a few weeks ago.. This lens better be good to get me to upgrade.. If it had SDM and top sealings like DA*'s $850 USD would be a fair price..

CR#P, I just bought the D FA 100mm in Sept. But since I have all the other Limiteds, I guess I'll figure out some way to afford it. I was planning on using my tax refund for another lens so if anyone is interested in a very lightly used Leica M3...............................

Ya, I may get it but!!!!

Where is the hot stuff, I mean a 135mm 1.8 or 135mm 2.0 would be great. How about an ISO machine that is ISO 25,600 and has great DR. Lets turn up the music and rock !

Lets get some money from Obama, (he"s giving it to Hillary's friends) and use it to make the worlds best high ISO camera !!!!

  1. D-FA a month until Photokina
  2. Trickle of 645D "tease" releases from Russia and Eastern Europe
  3. Show working 645D prototypes
  4. More D-FA releases
  5. "Announce" Hi-ISO FF sensor in K-7 body, cross-using much of the technology from K-7
    1. Don't forget they changed course on the K-7 last winter - probably adding some of the 645D technology to get the unit volume up)
  6. Release 645D with a suite of 645-DA lenses
  7. Keep releasing D-FA lenses
  8. September/October 2010 release FF IL-x in some kind of K-7 variant body
Pentax has done crazier things

I got about $70 in Adorama store credit. If I can sell my Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro for a decent price, then heck yes I'm getting the new 100mm macro!

That's what I've been waiting for. I didn't like the old DFA but this one is very attractive. Will definitely buy it when I get the funds.

Count me out. I've good old FA 100/3.5 macro that works well and I've no need for fancier 100 mm macro lens. But then again, I also passed over D-FA 100/2.8 macro at the time it was released.

I'm interested in these completely round diaphragm blades that they are bragging about in the release. If this lens' bokeh indeed turns out to be silky smooth, and the focusing speed isn't glacially slow, this will be a very attractive lens.

Just look at what Keitha McCall can do with the current version of the D-FA 100 macro. Even though that's in large part due to her talent as a photographer, I think it has been an under appreciated lens up to this point and it deserved a reboot

It's certainly a lens I would like to have although right at the moment it's not in the budget.
