I just purchased one, after much reading, but you can use a step down filter ring to 77mm I believe so if you already have a siggy 10-20, and a CPL you can step down and be ok. But I'll confirm this when the lens shows up!! I scored one on ebay for less than I could find a 28-75mm, (only one bid, MINE!!) I'm obviously in my LBA high right now....

I own the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG Macro EX. I love this lens. It's the lens I use most often and it's usually attached to my camera. I have 2 kit lenses that came with the white K-m, a Sigma 70-300 and a smc Pentax M f1.4

I have the 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro for my SD14 and love it! Razor sharp throughout entire aperture and focal range until hit 70mm then need to stop down to f/4 for razor sharp but even @ f/2.8 the results are quite good. It is one of my favorite lenses! I did like my Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di lens slightly better only because I had gotten a phenomenal copy that many time required me to soften the shots a bit as they were too sharp, lol!

I just got the sigma, I haven't had much time to try it out yet, but one of the reasons I chose it instead of the tamron, is the range. 24mm is borderline too much tele for indoors use but it's ok, while 28mm is too much, for me at least. I don't feel the extra 5mm the tamron has on the wide end matter as much since 5mm is a smaller percentage of the upper limit than 4mm is of the lower.

Its about €460 in the EU and perhaps a little cheaper in the states (the 24-70 F2.8 EX DG MACRO), the HSM costs a lot more. Feels like a perfect walk-around lens though if you don't mind the weight =).

Guys. These siggies are different in pretty mch every way. The HSM version is the smallest 24-70 f2.8 on the market despite it's 82mm filter size. The HSM is lightening fast and it's sharpness equals or exceeds C, N and S versions. It only came out this year so many of the review are on the old version. I also really like it's colors! Quite frankly, I was pleasantly surprised. I would put it in the same league as the 100-300f4 from sigma and I would defintely prefer it over the 50-135DA* in the overlapping range. I would definitely highly recommend it.

Here'a a sample photo that shows the color and sharpness performance of the old version of the sigma 24-70. its contrast is higher than tamron.
Btw it has the fastest AF i have ever seen. even faster than fa 50mm.

Hi,

I own the Sigma 24-60 2.8 that was mentioned before, and I like it a lot for indoor shots. Before I bought it, I played with the 24-70 (old non-HSM version) in the store and found them to be on par IQ-wise.

I decided for the 24-60 because of lower weight, size and price, and because it has a 77mm filter thread instead of 82mm with the 24-70.

Here are a few taken with mine on my SD14, only processing done was a little USM + local contrast enhancement to recover that which was lost during resizing for the web. But now keep in mind that the SD14 images, natively, will be sharper then any Bayer based sensor due to the design.

yes it was the straight jpeg out of camera. no PS. light was perfect.
