Pentax A* 300/2.8 as good as FA*?

I am quite interested in A* 300/2.8 but not sure how manual focus would effect the practility of this lens (for example i want to bring it to australian open game this year)

Any one compared the bokeh, sharpness of this lens to FA*?

Comments welcome and appreciated

According to the reviews at Stan's, both lenses which you mention are excellent.
So it probably comes down whether or not you want autofocus.

Just like dedicated Macro lenses, I've yet to come across a bad 300/2.8. You should be fine with all of those and even a Tamron 300/2.8.

My ultimate LBA target is a 300mm f/2.8 brand new. I had initially wanted a 200/2.8 prime but just so happened that I acquired the Sigma 70-200/2.8 EX DG lens, so I don't want overlapping focal lengths and the Sigma is a *fantastic* lens. Now, it's the 300/2.8 that I want. :-)

Cheers!

Actually, your posts of sigma 70-200/2.8 on buses on DPR prompted me to get the lens in the end. You were the culprit.

I will get DFA 300/4 when it comes out anyway. But i would love some great pentax lenses like 300/2.8 for my proud LBA. Since these 300/2.8 would be heavy at least a few kilograms. Hopping up and down in the mountains or in the wild with this type of lens can only dislocate my shoulder.

Just love to have one i can use in my spare time driving around or doing candid street photography.

photodo did mention tamron 300/2.8 not having the same kind of credit as sigma counterpart has?
