Cool! Very interesting lineup and I cant wait to see the results!! You'll have to buy that DA* 55 f/1.4 when its out and throw it in there too for the ultimate comparison of old/classic and proven vs. new/state of the art! Looking very forward to the comparisons. That A f/1.2 is really something!!

Whew overlapping...

Carpents, you are right about cheap glass a few years ago. Just giving you a hard time above. I had 8 x 50's at one point, just can't resist a deal. Some were as little as $5.00 at the local flea market before the digitals hit the market when Pentax seemed to be waiting and only going to PS cameras while the market was putting out the first DSLR's.

I had a 1.2 that I got for a ridiculous price at a swap. Talk about excited to have that lens!! Well that waned quickly when the lens didn't seem to perform as well as the 1.4 when both were wide open. Good at f8 but not good enough to keep IMO. Best thing about it was selling it to get 3 FA's for the same money.

My money is still on the 1.4. I look forward to the results....

I had many 50mm-lenses myself and made a shoot-out myself.
On film-slr

K 1.2 (and 1.8/55)
M 1.4 and 1.7
A 1.4, 1.7 and 2.0
F 1.7
FA 1.4

on dslr (DS) I still had
K 1.2
A 1.7
F 1.7
FA 1.4

the other weren't as good. Winner was the 1.2 on film as well as dslr.

So I'd bet ont he A 1.2 too....

Those 1.4-lenses make nicer bokeh than 1.7 but they weren't as sharp and contrasty.
Now I still have a K 1.4 (for the bokeh) and replaced the other 50mm-lenses with a 2.0/35 which I found more useful on my DS.....
For portraits still having the K 1.8/85 (and sold my A* 1.4 a few years ago - when the prices were down...... grrrrrrr)

:-) P.

Great thread

What fun!! Just wanted to express my thanks to you for doing this. I want to see how the A 50 f1.7 does against the M 50 f1.4 since I have these two

Thanks,
