Tamron 70-200: IQ in practice

To follow on from my previous thread on this beast of a lens (https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/69207-request-...0-f-2-8-a.html), I'm now pleased to have received my repaired copy of the lens from B&H (after 6 weeks) and is now working perfectly (after a couple of days of testing).

This has now given me the opportunity to give this beauty a run and report on real world results:

The lens certainly has the goods: bright, contrasty, sharp and well-built. Once the sticky aperture issue is sorted out, it's a real keeper.

For wide-open ISO 1600 shots, the lens + K20D combo seems to work very well - the 100% crops certainly show details starting to fray, but certainly acceptable.

B&H were great about it all - shipping paid was the amount to get the lens to me bought brand new and then back to them for the repair. $60 both ways - worth it in the long haul - it's a fine lens! Repair was done free as it occurred within the B&H guarantee period.

Hi Ash, I'm very glad to hear you got your lens back in good working order! I look forward to seeing more shots taken with this great lens.

As for me, I'm still on the fence and this is not helped by jsherman999's pictorial review of the Sigma 50-150 HSM. ;-) Fortunately, I've entered my photographic "low season" so I have some time to make my final decision.

The Sigma does become a lens to consider given the extra few mm of range over the 50-135, so hope the decision doesn't give you too much grief.
