Forgot to add, within the last few months, I snagged a Super Tak 50 in a camera store in San Luis Obispo for $75 after tax.
The Mrs. and I are headed over there in a month or so. Where is this camera store in SLO? And how can I distract her while I visit it? Hmmm.

Not Pentax related but pretty proud of this score..

Last fall during a used photo equipment show I was keeping an eye out
for a collegue (Canon guy) for a wide/fast lens to compliment his 24-105 f4.

A few minutes before leaving I spotted a Tamron SP AF 20-40mm f2.7-3.5
way in the back corner of a display case, do a quick visual check, glass/blades seem fine.

me: how much?
seller: hmm...it's my girlfriend's but..since I need money and haven't sold anything today...80$
me: it's missing the hood, is 70$ okay?
seller: fine 70$ it is.

Not familiar with this lens, a quick google search once home revealed it was rated quite high, average price new was 900$, ads show they still go for up to 300$ or so used.
Turns out image quality is very impressive, full frame lens, very sharp..all for 70$!

Michel

I haven't found near the deals that some of you have come across. My best deal thusfar was a KA mount Tokina AT-X 90/2.5 Macro for $300. I don't see why the lens doesn't sell for $750+, it's spectacular! Only beaten in my opinion by the Voigtlander 125/2.5, and we've all seen what that goes for now.

My deals really don't compare... the best I was able to do was $50 for a K1000, M50 2.0, M28mm 2.8, a small tripod and a pack of assorted filters.

Within a span of 2 or 3 weeks, I missed not one, but TWO M50mm 1.2 by mere minutes. The first one was going for $50. The second for $80.

I picked up the same book along with a bag containing three lenses and a nice spotmatic the other day. A little spooky to see a very similar setup ... but great read, nevertheless The author, sadly, has passed away.

And it had this in it

Spotmatic
Vivitar 55mm/2.8 macro
SMC Takumar 85mm/1.8
SMC Takumar 200mm/4

And not on the photo a 1.4x TC and Asahi Pentax bellows

All as a birthday gift

Hopefully, third time is the charm for you I find that patience pays off, as even with all the "competition" on craigslist it is possible to find some nice glass AND cheap (read: affordable) if you wait long enough.

Of course, Murphy's law would dictate that the more you want something the least you are to find it, so my approach is to simply buy whatever I can afford, and then find out how much it's worth

Nice collection ... gotta love vintage glass. I especially like the Makro-Kilar ("Macro-Killer")

Thanks. It does killer macro, too! I've read that it's the prototype upon which all modern 'miniature' camera (35mm FF & HF, APS, etc) macro lenses are modeled.

Anyway, that list was of my recent good hits. My all-time hits include:

* Paragon-Cimko 24/2.8 (US$9)
* Isco Westron 35/2.8 (US$27)
* Meyer Oreston 50/1.8 ($11.25)
* Argus-Chinon 55/1.7 (US$3)
* Super-Takumar 55/1.8 ($7.45)
* Nikkor 85/2 ($9)
* Vivitar-Komine 90/2.8 macro ($3)
* Meyer Trioplan 100/2.8 ($27)
* Meyer Telemegor 180/5.5 ($27)
* Tele-Takumar 200/5.6 ($29.50)
* Enna Tele-Ennalyt 240/4.5 ($27)
* Vivitar-Kiron S1 V1 70-210/3.5 ($32)
* Schneider Betavaron 50-125 ($72)

That last doesn't seem like such a deal till learning it's marked down from US$3600. I could list a few others, but I've already aroused enough hatred and jealousy.

Rbryant, the store is called Jim's Campus Camera. The place was closed on the Sunday I saw the Super Tak in the window and I knew I had to come back the next day to claim it. The only way I'll get rid of it is if I can find someone willing to swap it out, along with some gear, for either a F or FA 50 1.4, as I am finding that I don't like always having to use my M42 adapter in order to use the little guy.

Thanks for sharing ... and post away. I don't think anyone will hate it, personally I'm adding these to my "wanted" list as we go along May I ask where you find all these little treasures?

Biggest? A '70s vintage Vivitar 500mm behemoth.

Swapping out the Minolta mount for a K-mount was tricky, but I figured it out. I don't know how useful it will be, but it's $50 worth of head-turning...

Lately:

*ist DL with kit lens for 130 bucks on Craigslist

K-x, 18-55 & 55-300 with lowepro case for 425 on craigslist

I"m trying to remember but it was something like..
Minolta Maxxum 5000 AF body
Minolta 50 1.7
Minolta 70-210 beer can
Minolta 28-90
Sigma 50mm 2.8 macro
Minolta Flash & filters
And a Nice Tenba case all for 100 bucks from a local pawnshop.

Sold the above except the Tenba to fund LBA.

Made about 175 on the K-x kit, 100 on the DL and about 280 on the minolta stuff. Pawshops & Craigslist are my friend.
