I suppose mine is an indirect LBA score. A little over a month ago while searching craigslist for Pentax lenses (which seldom come up) I found a Canon 30D, 24-70/2.8 L and 70-200/2.8 L lens on craigslist for $1200. Sold the body for $350, the 24-70 for $1100 and the 70-200 for $1000 ($2450 total). Used the $1250 profit to buy three DA limited lenses (DA21, DA35, DA40) and a Tamron 1.4x Pz-AF MC4 teleconverter.

So basically for a one hour trip (in the rain) to buy the Canon gear, and another couple hours of effort to sell it, I managed to score three DA limiteds and a 1.4x teleconverter for "free".

My best one is not good because of the number of items, but because of the price...

I went to a flew market, spot a shoe box with filters and leather casings... both are labeled Pentax. I open the first one, it's a Pentax AF280T, looking new (I didn't know at the time if it worked with the K20D, it does). The second one contains a Super program and a SMC-A 50 mm f1,4. There are also some filters, plus the manuals for everything.

I ask the fellow "how much for the camera?"

He says : "10$ for the box"

My heart stops, I purchase the package, go home, try the flash, try the lens, and sell the Super Program for 35$ (too low, but I wasn't looking for a huge profit).

So you could say I scored an AF280T and an A50 f1,4 for MINUS 25$...

Not as impressive, but I also scored a Vivitar series 1 for 40$ and a FA 50 macro for 150$. both nearly new (the FA looks mint, in fact).

Haha, all those stories make me feel less guilty about my own score.

Just a few months ago, I paid $1000 cash for all of the following:

FA 43mm f/1.9 limited
FA 77mm f/1.8 limited
K20D body
D-BG2 battery grip
2x D-LI50 batteries
AF 360 flash
Gary Fong lightsphere
Lowepro SlingShot 200 AW
2x 8GB SDHC cards

Lenses, body, and flash came with the original boxes and paper work, too!

the former owner must be scornful.

This thread is bad for my LBA, I thought I had it under control lately, but now my misplaced sense of competitiveness urges me to try harder to find 'bargains'!
LOL. Me, too. Reading about all these great bargains is feeding the addiction.

We should start a "worst LBA purchase/experience" thread for those of us who are trying to recover!

Yeah, that's an amazing lens. I just sold my fairly beat up version for $150 on the marketplace.
My Tomioka 60mm Macro is in great shape with original caps and case. SOldbear, besides the Mamiya version I also think I saw a Ricoh copy that doesn't even say "Macro" on it.

A few months ago I saw a mint copy of the Mamiya version with original box on eBay with a starting bid price but also a "Buy it Now" option of $175. I thought about getting it as a second copy but by the time I decided to go for it someone else had already placed a starting bid, nullifying the BIN. It ended up selling for about $275.

Am I reading this right? Both macros for $150?

Some great deals here everyone. I love these stories. Glad we're finding them.

Me:

SF1 About 2 years ago and listed as "camera for sale"
F50mm f1.7
F 28-70mm F4
F 70-210mm f4-5.6
Camera bag full of accessories.

Almost embarrassed to say $10.00 It was a $0.99 listing and no bidders. The seller never knew my bid was actually $144.00

Sigma 70/2.8 macro for $275. this could cost me over around $620 brand new from B&H and $750 (also brand new) locally nowadays. the lens is a year old was bought brand new last year by the original owner for $550. time when lenses, particularly K-mounts were considered cheaper.

On the contrary, the former owner was happy to pass his gear to
someone who cherishs Pentax camera and lenses
$1000 cash is the price he advertized on local craigslist, and I didn't
dare to ask for any discount. That's probably the reason he chose me
not the other guys who contacted him.

The former owner was a very nice guy and had plenty of knowledge
about Pentax cameras. I think he could be one of the PentaxForums'
members. Maybe a "former" member, though.
