DA*16-50mm F2.8ED Al SDM

I recently bought this lens from B&H as a replacement for the crappy kit lens that came
with my K-10D. This new lens, as report by others, is absolutely amazing and is well
worth the money. As most of my photography is macro for scientific documentation of
plants, this lens compliments my FA 100mm macro by covering all the territory the narrow angled 100mm can't and with great precision. A winner. Now all Pentax has to
do is come out with a DA* 100mm macro so I can spend more money.

The 16-50 is a very fine lens, but there is nothing "crappy" about any of the 18-55 lenses that Pentax has sold as a "kit".

For their price they are good lenses. You just need to know how to use them so they perform best.

I have this in my PPG taken with the Mk1 "kit" lens: http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/home#section=ARTIST&subSection=1389980&sub...96&language=EN

If you really want to spend more money on a new macro, Pentax just announced the D FA 100mm Macro WR (Weather Resistant). Metal construction, weather sealing to complement your DA* lens...it's got to be calling your name.

But let me second the exception that pschlute takes to your bashing the 18-55mm. That lens--in any of its incarnations, but especially the MkII and WR versions--is rightfully considered one of the best "kit" lenses any manufacturer has used in recent years. And even the MkI that came with your K10D is no slouch. The increases in build quality and aperture that you gained going to the 16-50 far outweigh the image quality gains.

I may have upgraded to far more expensive lenses across the whole focal length range, even the wide-to-short-tele zoom. But you'll get my 18-55 when you pry it from my cold dead hands.
