DA 40mm price rise ?

Has the price of the DA 40mm gone up lately ? Both Adorama & B&H have it for $339 USD ? Seems expensive to me ?

It's more expensive elsewhere. A lot of stores are expecting $499 for it. So yes, it has gone up.

That is a bargain compared to the FA 50... and it is a much better lens IMO

but I am the fa hater...

But in general all of the lenses have gone up, some more than others. Although the DA 40 has gone up the least I think. Marc would know better than I, as he has done some price tracking...

I paid $309 (incl. shipping) from Willoughby Camera's eBay action in the middle of September, for what it's worth.

That is a lens I would love to get for $339, if I ever get over my self imposed pentax embargo. I tried to order an M40 in the '80's only to find it discontinued. Too bad there was no ebay back then.

Who do I report this too...???

I have the FA and you know it! I somehow I ended up with the FA 50 1.4 and 1.7... Talk about LBA out of control... My least favorite lens and I have two of them!!!! But I will happily sell them for 350 each!

You are pokin' at me from your lofty seat of power! And it hurts, my brother... It hurts

p.s. What I don't have is a camera ~ 8^)

so I am tossing up between the FA50 & the DA40; Can anyone suggest which one I should get & why ?

I currently own M series 50mm F1.2 & 50mm F1.7...oh & a 24mm F2.8. I also own a sigma 17-70mm zoom. I want an auto focus for indoor use. The sigma is a bit slow much above 24mm. Ideally I would get the FA31mm but really it is to expensive.

It will be use to shoot my 1 y/o daughter & I find she moves around to quickly for the old manual focus lenses.

I owned the DA40 and now have an FA50 1.4.

Both lenses have their good and bad points.

The DA40 I found isn't fast enough at 2.8 yet it has a fantastically sharp image.

The FA50 is fast at 1.4 yet it a tad soft however I like that it's a longer lens, personally I prefer it over the DA40 for portraits.

You forgot that the DA 40mm will focus faster and more accurately in indoor light.

Thank you

Hmm I disagree to be honest.

I used the DA40 to shoot in lowlight at a concert once and I didn't find it that good.

Two small-sized Pentax prime lenses 10 mm apart in focal length. I really fail to see apples and oranges here.

(I actually have both for some reason and don't really know which I prefer...)

10mm is very noticeable in that focal area
f/1.4 versus f/2.8

And you still don't see the difference...?

No. I see two apples, which of one is a little bigger and the other a little sweeter. A matter of preference - true - but not something you can't really compare.
