D-XENOGON 35mm F2

Anybody have this lense? Is it a decent substitute for the Pentax 35mm F2? Thinking of getting either 35mm F2 or Sigma 30mm 1.4.

Thanks

Steve

I have it, it's exactly the same as the Pentax FA35/2 so grab one if you can find it at a good price in Korea like I did

Hi,

Steve, are those FA31's still around US$800 down there ?, I know you offered to get them at that price a while ago.

I recently got the FA35/2, I've only had it for a few days. Overall the lens is quite nice, too early to say, but AF failure is sort of bugging me now, but need to use it for a bot longer before I decide.

AF failure with the FA 35/2? Now that is a new one. Mine on the K10D is very fast, almost never hunts, and accurate to boot.

Right now with exchange rate the FA31's are $875, which is better than $1195 amazon has them at right now.

the D-XENOGON 35mm F2 is about $365 after exchange.

Both quoted exhange rates are online prices. Might be able to find a littler cheaper in person

I'm surprised too. mine is extremely fast as hell when I first got mine and compared it against my FA50/1.7 even in lowlight.

mind if I ask if pcarfan bought his copy brand new? did he got his copy replaced?

The AF itself is very fast, and locks fast but I find most of the times it is not in focus. When I tried it now it focused well each time....but, when I took some test shots the other night to compare the FA35 and FA*24 at f2 in dark (iso 1600, 1/8), the FA*24 images were tach sharp, the FA35 locked focus but when viewed at 100% it was obvious it did not focus at all.

P.S: Tried it later, and the AF seems fine......

Could be you're simply seeing that there is less DOF at 35mm than at 24mm, or simply got unlucky on camera choosing a different focus subject than you intended. Sample images would be interesting.
