I'm thinking about DA15 and DA40 two lens combo on K-x for hiking and long trips.

I use that combo and love it. For a more serious trip, I add the DA15 and the DA70 or FA77.

Just my 2 cents worth. I have the Pentax DA 12-24 and I believe that it is one of the best wide angle zooms ever manufactured and if I had to choose between the three lenses, the 12-24 would win hands down. Sharp across the board from f4.0 to f16.0. Very little distortion and incredible value for the money.

Not Pentax lenses, but I recently settled on the Cosina line-up: 20mm, 40mm and 58mm. I can honestly say that I did fine with them on my recent trip to Japan (20 and 58 were acquired there).
