I would suggest placing the lens in a ziploc plastic bag. And when taking it out in cold weather, wait until it completely equalizes in temperature with the surroundings before taking it out of the bag and installing it in the camera.

There may be an explanation for the Tamron not fogging up. It may have had time to "acclimatize". so by the time you took it out, it was ok.
