Reversed Pentax-M 50mm F1.7 on a K-x

Hey!

Is it possible to mount a reversed Pentax-M 50mm F1.7 lens directly on my K-x using only a K Mount to 49mm adapter? I have this lens hanging around and thought I could use it for some Macro stuff. Any other tips you can give me for using this lens reversed like settings and stuff? Thank you very much in advance!

Have a great 2010!
Marco

It is possible to mount a reversed Pentax-M 50mm F1.7 lens directly on my K-x using only a K Mount to 49mm adapter but you'll get essentially one fairly high magnification and focus distance.

Inexpensive extension tubes will be more versatile for your M50.

Reverse mounting mild zoom lenses can also be usefull if you can control aperture.

You will get higher magnification reversing wide angles. Perhaps you also have a 28mm hanging around?

Personally, I'd use the 50/1.7 the "normal" way. It's a great lens!

Thank you for your input. I already use it the "normal" way and it's indeed great. Anyway, I was just curious since I've seen someone mentioning the fact that you could get some cool macro shots with the lens reversed (I've read it in the lens review here at pentaxforums).

Nice to see some portuguese people here too. Cheers!

I have used mine reversed. My comments:
  • The magnifications are high
  • Working distance is tight
  • Quality is quite good
  • Aperture is full manual (always stopped down), use Av mode
  • Focus ring does nothing when the lens is reversed. Focus by moving the camera. This is much easier with a focus rail.
