Broken Hood

I was outside today with camera&lens around neck and inside my coat, had my hood
(DA 55-300) in small slingpack on my back. When I was getting ready to shoot ,I
mounted hood to lens front and rotated to engage lugs ,breaking hood.no big deal
stuff happens ,always another day.got home little bit ago, went B&H's on web
and found out its $64 to replace it OUCH!
Anybody Know if any of Pentax"s other, cheaper plastic hoods would be good replacment?

Have you considered repairing your broken hood? It doesn't have to be pretty.

What about generic-type lens hoods from ebay or the like?

How about for the 55-200? Anyone know if that'd fit? I'm pretty sure I saw at least knockoffs for those somewhere.

The third party screw-on hoods are a lot more hassle than the easy fitting OEM hood for the 55-300.
If it's salvageable, repair it and hopefully it will still fit.
I did the same thing to my 16-50's hood and it certainly isn't pretty now after supergluing it, but it's functional and not worth replacing for whatever astronomical price it would go for and shipped to Australia...

Hi Ash,hey to all guys, thanks for the support, your right Ash.I've used some of those old rubber
things back in my film days and it seemed like if I were out in the sun for any length of time
ozone would degrade them to the point were I was buying another weeks later.Don't like the ideal of a metal one either...metal on plastic and all that.Found one on the net , best offer or $48 I'm
gonna low-ball an offer to em..see what happens .also have sigma 70-300 with 58mm front end
worst comes to worst I'll get the jewllers files and moto tool out and put em to work.
