this has been fun to hear every one's stories and opinions, so OK help.

presently my M42 kit is

vivitar 28mmF2.5, SMC Tak 35mm F2, Helios 58 mm F2, Super Tak 85mm F1.9
Plus SMC Tak 50mm F4 macro and authentic pentax extension tube set.

the lack of a 24mm will be solved with an adaptall 2 M42 mount because having converted the Nikon 24mm F2 to K mount, the adaptall can go to the M42 kit.

Ultra wide will wait, but as you can see i am lacking 105, 125 and 200mm as well as a fast 50

Any volunteer doners?

“Which of you shall we say doth love us most?”

I know this is my second response on this thread, but I was thinking about this at lunch today, having just closed on a K lens.

The madness isn't in the buying, it is in the randomness and thoughtlessness of the buying, so that we accumulate all sorts of "really nice" disjointed lenses/bodies that don't fit together sensibly, made the worse when we originally had a plan . . . .

As Lear said, “Which of you shall we say doth love us most?”

And I've been feeling silly about wanting *istDS2 for m42 and macro.

The Vivitar (Komine) 200mm f3.5 is really good and can be found for incredible bargain prices. The same goes for the Vivitar (Komine) 135mm f2.8. It's not quite as good as your K135/2.5 but far cheaper. You can get exactly the same optical formula as the K135/2.5 and K105/2.8 in Super-Multi-Coated Takumars, but that might be boring.

Don't forget that there is some really unique and interesting auto Tak lenses out there such as the 35mm f2.3 and 35mm f3.5 not to mention the 85mm f1.8 auto tak.

Edit: I have my m42 lenses divided up like this: K kit, SV kit, Spot F/ES kit, H3/H2 kit and the German kit.

I know you have the 85/1.9, but I would keep an eye out for a 85/1.8. I have it in Auto Tak, SMC Tak and K. I can't say enough about it in both K and SMC. Nothing else gives the same look.

The 135 is also one that I would have in both K and SMC Tak. I have not had as much luck with that 105 ad 120s, but it might be my copies.

Yashinon makes a nice fast 50 for cheap.....

I just want to point out that the auto Tak 85mm f1.8 and S-M-C 85mm f1.8 are optically different. There is some confusion about that.

Only the later example Takumars, model number 43812 (engraved on the underside of the auto/manual switch).

*ist DS models are my choice for M42 dedicated bodies also..... Small bodies to match the small lenses, Pentaprism (with Katz-eye screens) for manual focusing , classic film camera lenses matched to a sensor with more of a film-like quality than later sensors (IMHO), more accurate metering with M42s than later models.
