Old Vivitar 75-300mm fits K1000 but not K-x?

Hey gang,

I picked up a K1000 with a 50mm f/1.4 and a Vivitar 75-300 (looks almost identical to this one here PentaxForums.com Third-Party Pentax Lens Review Database - 75-300mm f4.5-5.6 'a'setting just an older model with no A-setting).

I only paid $60 and really just wanted the 50 for my Kx, but I'm a little bummed the Vivitar zoom doesn't fit the K-x, thought it fits fine on the K1000. The mount looks really similar to this one ( https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-lens-articles/56234-konica-minolta...ld-lenses.html ). I see the same lateral tab that's missing from the 50mm. This hits the area on the Kx body where the power contacts are.

Can this section be safely ground off the mount on the Vivitar?

Thanks!

yes but remove the shield from the lenss first to avoid filling thelens with filings, AND paint the cut edges to stop internal reflections

I did this with a Vivitar zoom, works fine. Just filed down where the end should be and took the rest down with a grinder wheel on my Drummel. Finished off with some high grit sand paper.

Just in case anybody ever comes across this in the distant future:

I feel stupid for even asking this question now! I went to remove the mount and found that there's a separate inner black ring with the protuberance that I wanted to get rid of. The little K-mount tab is not on this part. I took it off (2 tiny screws) and now it mounts on the K-x with no problem at all, no filing or grinding necessary.
