The "GREAT under 50.00 lens" thread

I thought this would be good for those people interested in the cheap gems like me.... I have been scouring lately for good cheapies, and for the money ive spent im sure i could have picked up a nice ltd prime, lol...

lens qualifications:
-cost was under 50 bucks shipped and after tax and all fees
-must fit k-mount pentax without an adapter (K, KA, KAF, or KAF2)
-can be auto or manual focus
-can be primes or zooms

ill start it off...

1st lens i bought for the k-x was a pentax-m 50mm f1.7 for 25.00 it was on ebay and had a dent on the filter ring. I love this lens. its very sharp and good for shooting 720p video in low light wide open. i like the bokeh this lens produces also.

I bought a lense on ebay for approx $45 @ But-it-now. It was accurately described and had a photo of the item so I jumped on it.

When it arrived I was shocked... It turned out to be basically new!

A brand new Pentax-A 50mm f1.4

.~(YAY!)

then sold my previous Pentax-A 50mm 1.4 for $150 approx

i can only find m42 takumar 55mm 1.8. guess the k mount version are hard to come by. ill keep an eye out.... i can never have too many fast primes, lol...

also picked up a sweet little cosmicar 28mm f2.8 that performs wonderfully! think i paid 25 shipped on ebay for it.

anyone know how much that Vivitar ka mount 28MM 1:2.0 goes for?

Does the shipping charge count towards the $50 dollars?

lens qualifications:
-cost was under 50 bucks with or without shipping
-must fit k-mount pentax without an adapter
-can be auto or manual focus
-can be primes or zooms

Hmmm...I truly hate to spend over $50!

From the current quiver...
  • Pentax-M 50/1.7 (bought NEW for less than $50 in 1982)
  • Pentax-K 55/1.8 ($45)
  • Helios 44M 58/2 ($10)
  • Mamiya/Sekor 55/1.8 ($15 complete with camera)
  • XR-Rikenon 50/2 ($28)
  • XR-Rikenon 50/2 ($38 complete with camera...yes, I have two of these)
  • Auto Rikenon 50/1.7 ($25 complete with camera)
  • Vivitar 135/2.8 ($35)
  • Vivitar 200/3.5 (~$30)
All of the above offer above average performance and excellent build (a little slack cut for the Helios here). Of the bunch, the K 55/1.8 and Helios are the top performers followed closely by the Auto Rikenon 50/1.7 and the Vivitar 135/2.8.

I bought my M-135 3.5 for 40$. That was pretty good.
I bought my A-50 1.7 with another lens and a zoom program-plus body. If you subtract some for the other two items and accessories, the lens to me cost around 50, which is what I was willing to pay.

Sub $20 buys + shipping buys
Sigma Zoommaster 35-70 f2.8
Pentax F series35-70 f3.5
SMC 50 f2 or was that a 55 f2
Anyone want to join the " I want to drive Igilligan nuts with another obscure/perhaps pointless club"?
