Match a Canon135/2 at f2 - look elsewhere (maybe a FA85/1.4)
there is an A* 135/1.8.

Discount? where?
Yeah. I didn't know they discontinued that one, either. I wouldn't mind using one of those.

I've read several times about the discounted Sigma 50-150, and never seen one. What am I missing?

Yes, of course
But no AF and shooting at f1.8 can be tough for moving subjects, hard to find and imo way overpriced in the 2nd hand market atm. The Canon sells for about $1050 where I am (Singapore). New and AF. Pentax really should be looking at coming out with a new fast 135mm.

A FA*85 on the other hand is still a match against either the Nikon or Canon equivalents in price and arguably more 'magical' in terms of OOF rendering.

this is the closest to street photography with my F 135mm I've got...

maybe this too?

anyways to view more images taken with my F 135mm (same optically as the FA) go to here: Pentax F 135mm F/2.8 - a set on Flickr

Its a lovely lens, and well worth the $350ish I spent on it Honestly, the AF alone makes it worth $350. If the FA is half as fast, you'll still be awestruck guaranteed. My Nikon buddy was VERY impressed by it, calling it the speed demon lens

Apologies for not getting back to you. You'll need to look around for the deals on the Sigma - SRS in the UK was doing them for £350 early last month, and I got one in Campkin's Camera in Cambridge for £300! So the deals are out there, but getting trickier to find now that it has been properly discontinued.
