I've tried a bunch of 135s and other M42s in the range noted (just the common ones), but in my experience, if I had to keep just one, it would be the SMC/SUPER TAKUMAR 150mm F4 .

I've always been impressed with my old Takumar ( M42 screw mount) 135mm F 3.5 purchased in the early '70's.

Like many others, I have tried a number of 135's, but, if I had to pick just one 135, it would be the "Vivitar 135mm f/2.8 Auto Telephoto Close Focusing" (Komine) ( Vivitar Auto Close Focusing (1:2) 135mm f/2.8 Lens Reviews - Vivitar Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database ).

I am no doubt such a poor photographer that I could not get as good an image from a Jupiter 11A but that is not going to stop me trying to purchase one, hopefully a bit cheaper than the ones I have bid on at auction. I'm not sure which is my favourite of my collection of 135mm lenses, perhaps the CZJ 135mm F3.5 Sonnar...or the Super Tak 135mm F3.5 ...or one of the others.
This Jupiter image is great!

Ok, a while back I asked the forum members a question

Do I have LBA or have I simply lost my mind? - PentaxForums.com

I decided to look at building an M42 Kit, and happened onto a really nice takumar 200mm F3.5 to go with the supertakumar 85mm F1.9.

I had already most of the low focal lengths (24 F2.5, 28 F2.5 and 35 F2) but the real hole in the kit now that I havbe a 200 is something between 85 and 200, i.e. a 135.

I do not want an SMC takumar F2.5 because I feel that will be too similar to my SMC Pentax 135 F2.5 so I am looking for another high quality 135, that may be something a little different.

Let's here the ideas

About 10 years late in response but thanks
I ultimately bought a Tele-Lentar 135/2.8 preset. I have found multiple other 135’s since including super tak 135/3.5 and SMC tak 135/3.5. I also have a sigma 135 mm macro that uses A variable focal length Design for close focusing via a second “close focus” ring Kind of an odd thing to use, haven’t gotten the knack if it yet.

One caution. I picked up a rikenon (Ricoh) 135/2.8 and found it suffered from sensor reflection due to a high gloss lens element retaining ring on the rear element. I had to paint this ring flat black to prevent donut shaped ultra low contrast fogging of my images. I ultimately scrapped this lens for the m42 mount to convert a Nikkor 300/4.5 to M42.

I used to have a JCPenney 135f2.8 (in K mount) with a ‘macro’ front ring like that.
I gave it to my sister in-law as I also had a Vivitar close focus that I liked better.

I also have the first edition Super multicoated takumar 135mm f2.5, and it is notably better than the f3.5 one....
The six element has to be superb to be better...

I do not own all of them, but I do own the Mamiya 135mm ƒ2.8 and the Vivitar/Komine auto telephoto 2.8/135 6 blade. The Mamiya lens is sharper than my vivitar and my canon FD 135mm lenses. But more importantly, the colors are better. The reds in the vivitar are darker, the reds in the canon lens lack detail.
