Does Mamiya/Sekor 50mm f1.2 really exist?

One of my friends says he has an old lens sitting in his closet for years and wants to get rid of it by selling it to me. I asked for the lens description and he told me Mamiya/Sekor 50mm f1.2! I Googled but couldn't find any info on any lens from Mamiya that is f1.2. I wonder if he meant 1:2 or 1.2.

I asked him a couple times and he kept saying 1.2

Can someone shed some lights into this?

Thanks!

I thought the M42 mount was not wide enough for the rear element of an f1.2 lens. I have seen a few of the M/S 50mm f2 lenses so there's definitely a possibility for confusion.

Yes, I think the same too. Probably 1:2.

Waiting for his pictures of the lens for final confirmation. I was so excited when I heard it was a f1.2

The may have had a 55mm f1.2 in a joint venture with Tomioka. Tomioka made a 55mm f1.2 in m42 and there are some Chinon Tomioka and Tomioka Revuenon versions out there.

There were 55mm f1.2 m42 lenses. Tomioka was in on many of them.

Now for sure he has made a mistake. Just hoping the mistake is at the focal number instead of aperture number

You definitely need to verify this because the odds are it is a 50mm f2. However there is a chance it is a f1.2 or f1.4 55mm.

Mamiya sekor 1.2

One of the guys at my camera club brought along a box of "unwanted bits" featuring old m42 lenses. I said I'd be interested and took the box home. Amongst other items was a Mamiya Sekor 50mm 1.2. Definitely 1.2 - very large piece of glass. As it was the aperture blades were sticking and worst of all there was a big scratch in the front element. The only lens he gave me which actually functions is a carl zeiss 50mm 1.8 pancolar. I'm really excited about this, The glass is perfect and look forward to trying it once I've gotten rid of the pin. (All the other unusable lenses I'm taking the elements out of to make a zany kind of mobile.
Real shame about the 1.2, but there it is - they were definitely produced.

Having shot Mamiya for 3 decades.....I CAN ASSURE YOU......IT DOESNT EXIST !
Mamiya shooters wanting that fast had to use a Auto Chinon Tomioka 55 1.2
This may be in disagreement with a couple members on here....so If Im wrong ....... Show me with a picture of one. ???
I guarantee you.....Its a 1:2 Or its a 55 and not a 50......keep your fingers crossed for the 55 Tomioka.

Looks like the m42 Tomioka 55mm F1.2 can command very high prices - or at least someone thinks so

I have the Mamiya/Sekor 50 1:2 lens and 1:1.4, I would say it would be extremely rare that it is a 55/f1.2 as others have mentioned here. I have seen Porst, Chinon, Revuenon, Yashinon 55/f1.2 mostly made for and with design by Tomioka.

Sometimes the colon (':') on the name plate gets messed up so it actually does look like it says 1.2. I wouldn't be surprised if the 55/1.2 came under the M/S name (as did some of the other Tomioka lenses). One tell-tale sign of the real 1.2 is the rear element has a chunk missing out of it (it is not a full circle) -- that's how it is supposed to be, it is not damage.

If you look carefully at some of the other shots of this lens you can see that there is definitely a "1.4" to the RHS of the "2" on the aperture ring, and there is what looks a "1.2" to the RHS of the "1.4" - so I think this is an F1.2 lens

That also seems to be the case for this lens because one of the other shots does show the "chunk" .
