Pentax telephoto lenses reviewed in Colorfoto

May be someone is interested in another set of lab tests on DA* 200mm, DA* 300mm and DA 60-250mm. These were published in a German photography journal Colorfoto. Since they mainly focus on quantifiable aspects of these lenses I put here the links to the resolution charts only.

The tests are based on measuring the spatial frequency response or contrast. On the charts you can find how well large or small details could be detected. They shot something like 20 photos of a test chart and took the best into the calculation. Continuous lines show the lens wide open and dotted lines depict the resolution when stopped down by 2 units. Various colors show different part of the image circle, as indicated in the lower right corner. On the right hand side you can find columns with the values for best and worse autofocus accuracy.

Thanks. BTW, it's difficult to compare DA* 200 at the same apertures with the others, since it starts at f/2.8.

Indeed. Yet, the dotted line in case of the 200mm lens shows it's capabilites when stopped down by two and hence is somewhat comparable to the others. It seems that wide open it is not that good, yet, when stopped down it reaches basically the same resolution figures as the 300mm wide open in the center. The latter one is by far the best in the test, with virtually excellent perfomance even at f4. The zoom lens lags a bit behind the prime lenses and needs to be stopped down to reach similar level of resolution as the others achive wide open.

It is interesting to note that none of these lenses are bothered by the sensor limit (pink line on the far right side of the chart).
