IMO that's not going to sell for that price. I think the going rate is around $2K most of the time. Beautiful glass though.

Agreed. But I've seen wilder things happen on the bay.
It does seem to be in excellent condition and everything is included.

I saw this the other day and thought it was way over priced as well....

You make an excellent point about posting auction info. here, as it always spoils it for the ones buying it by increasing the price. So, the post may help those who don't knowa bout it, but screw it up for someone who is already aware of it....I know yours is a BIN, so is irrelevant (otherwise, I would not even mention it )

A Nikon 200mm f4 D micro is around $1650, Nikon 4804 R1 Wireless Close-Up Speedlight System is about $460 which leaves about $1800 to spend on a body. I suppose I could do without the flash and just spend the $2249 on a D700?

Choices, choices.

Thank you
Russell

Oh yes, the FA* 200 is fine, but definitely not worth as much as they're asking for.
May as well go for a DA* 200 for a fraction of that price...

The FA is the MACRO version, which is a different league. But anyway, this is too much. The seller is not the cheapest, often has Pentax products in LN condition at reasonable prices - but this one… I simply hope, that nobody pays that much, because success with such a price would probably encourage others to increase their Pentax glass prices again.

Ash,

This is the FA* 200 f4.0 macro - not to be confused with the FA* 200 f2.8.
Quite another beast.

Hypothetically, what would this lens cost if it were in production? I'm guessing that if it were in production that it would be a "special order" item and the prices would be relatively high due to that as well. Regardless, I fail to understand why Pentax can't get their head out of their collective a$$e$ long enough to revise this thing into a DA* 200mm f4 macro.

maybe this is a consequent move after the recent price increases :-)

but please consider this:
there are always people who don't care about money.
and this is a very rare lens...

If I could talk the wife into it I'd rather have the other Macro he is selling.

I wonder if it's sharper than my Series-1 200?
Anyways, I would of bought it if it was black, but I hate silver so...

I have the Sigma EX DG 180mm f/3.5 and I cannot imagine ever needing anything more. I think I paid $680 or something.
