Pentax takes back refurb! DA*50-135 story....

Made a new thread about the this affair, so people would notice!

This is an followup on this thread https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/86167-da%2A50-...ts-refurb.html

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These two mails droppes in today, from the swedish pentax service center!

11 januari 2010 09:39:56
"Hi Michael!
We sended your question to Pentax, so we'll wait and hear what they say.
The sad thing is that one doesnt have so much rights at all when buying lenses abroad, the Swedish Consumer Sale of Goods doesl not apply in that case. We tend not to recommend that people buy lenses outside of Sweden.
We will try to help you as best we can.
Yours sincerely,
Nettan"

den 11 januari 2010 15:33:27 (same day!)
"Hello Again!
Now they were fast to answer, we have already received a reply from Pentax!
Pentax will send us a brand new lens.
You may keep the second lens until you recieve the new, and i'll send you a waybill for the old lens to send back to us.
Yours sincerely,
Nettan"

Im happy! This is what should have been done from the start.

Someone must have done the wrong thing, and when Pentax Office heard of it, they corrected fast!

THAT is really good service. I mean the lens you've got should never have been sent to you in the first place, but the compensation now is fine - and very fast.

A good result.
And they've allowed you to have the refurb with you until the new one arrives - good service.

This is great! And i hope the next lens is in good shape to. Hope they test these lenses nowadays, before shipping. (?)

Regardless im quite happy with the outcome.

However, im not sure if i will be keeping the DA*, but thats another story!

Thanks for follwing this and supporting!

Edit: I'll torture the next one when its cold (-10 to -15 c) to se how SDM works in cold! I live in this climate. I must take photos, dont i?

This was similar to my outcome with Pentax service in the USA. They were very responsive, and sent me a brand new DA* 50-135 with a new full 1-year warranty, even though technically my old one was within days of being out of warranty when I sent it in. They concurred that the SDM failed.

The only problem was that the SDM on the brand new lens they sent me started to fail, not long after I got it. That's why I sold the third one as soon as I got it.

So...got my lens back today, and it certainly is a brand new one, wrapped in plastic and smells factory and all that

It seems to work well also, though i have not tested its optical acuracy yet.

SDM hesitated a litle on startup, but seems fine now.

Though.......please hold your breaths......

Im terrified and afraid of the lens....i get nervous just picking it up. And to mount it gives me the shakes. I got the SDM shakes i think!

Every time i use it i just feel forced to try it in a "non photographic" way...just to see if its something wrong with it. This is sick....

The quality of the pics, the fast aperture and the very comfortable size all makes the lens a treasure to photography, but i just cant let the problems go and im thinking. "Sell it"....."i'll keep it"....."naaah, i must sell it"....."but but but...."

Thanks for listening!

And please....if i choose to sell it....dont call me an idiot. I just dont feel comfortable anymore with it!

You can sell it to me in a couple of months when I have the money.
