55-300mm lens cap design

Question for the users of this lens, can you get your hood off with the lens cap on? I have tried two aftermarket lens caps and both block the hood from going on or off.

No problems here. Note that the original Pentax lens cap is a inner-grip or pinch-style lens cap, so you might want to get one of those.

Also, looking at the lens, its quite a close fit between hood and lens cap, so if the lens cap has a loop on the outside diameter, you might have to cut it off, otherwise it may get in the way of removing the hood.

As said, yes you can. But I battle as my fingers slip of it.

The hood will go on and off with the pentax cap. But I've had aftermarket caps that would not allow the hood to be attached when on with an 18-55. I suspect it is the same thing with the 55-300.

Just get the center pinch type and you will be fine.
It is the same as the Pentax OEM only the Pentax has the branding on it.

No it doesn't work, I have a 3rd party centre pinch and the hood gets stuck.

alfisti, what aftermarket caps have you tried? for my 16-45 I got a Tamron centre-pinch cap (67mm) that still allows me to take the hood off. maybe the 58mm tamron would work for the 55-300.
i have 55-300 and can take hood off (has original pentax centrepinch cap)

Go a size smaller and get the 55mm center pinch cap.
I have 52mm center-pinch caps on some of my 55mm lenses.
The sides that grab the filter thread are spring loaded so they go beyond just the 52mm diameter.
You might want to try this as when I looked at my 52mm third party center-pinch caps on my 55mm lenses, it kinda sits flush the barrel so if you get the 55mm caps for the 58mm lens, it should also sit flush or a tad smaller the the actual lens barrel.
Just a suggestion...it might work if everything you try fails.
