From what I have been reading lately it was discontinued...Now I'm hoping that means that it will be re-developed with HSM or possibly a faster lense? but All we can do is wait and see.

There are a few used ones around for sale if you are looking for those.

edit: Looks like it is BACK...

It's not back. Just that Adorama is not listing it officially as discontinued. This is the same way they have had it listed for some time now. Specifically it says, "*Note: This item is currently out of stock and on backorder. Please note: You can order this now and have us ship it as soon as it arrives. We will not charge your card for any backordered items, until it is ready to actually ship." Problem is, yeah you can order it, but it will never be shipped to you.

I called Sigma about it 2 or 3 months ago when it first became apparent that something was going on with the supply of this lens and they said at first that it was discontinued and then later that it wasn't. It was obvious that the girl I was talking to didn't have a clue. I asked her (when she said that it WAS discontinued) if they were going to re-introduce it with either HSM or OS. She put me on hold and came back and said "no, there are no plans to re-introduce that lens in Pentax or Nikon mounts." I knew I wasn't going to get any real info from this girl so I just decided I should go ahead and buy it. I ended up getting the last one that Amazon had (and paid $1199 instead of the more common $1099). I'm glad I did. The lens has pretty much disappeared. Even those (like Amazon) that say they have it apparently don't. Plus, even at $1199 the lens is a bargain. I guess silent focus would be nice, but the screw-driven is so quick and accurate that I definitely don't feel like somethings missing. I would kind of like to have OS as that is supposed to be a bit better than SR, but again, its not enough of a thing to make me want to sell mine to buy a newer version if they ever DID re-introduce it. Plus, newer versions aren't always even as good as, much less better than the old ones.

But hey, Sigmas last position to me was that the lens is NOT discontinued, so maybe it will re-appear at some point. If it does, I highly recommend it.

There seem to be no shortage of the Siggis 100-300/4 in Germany. Several online dealers list it for immediate delivery with prices starting just below 1000 Euros (including 19% VAT). Amazon.de is among the more expensive ones, but list three lenses for immediate delivery, too (via an associated dealer).

Amazon frequently lists various Sigma lenses as having HSM in the Pentax mount when they do not. If you don't know for sure, check out Sigma's site.

100-300 does not have HSM for Pentax (and Sony) mounts probably because of the fact, that it is a pretty old lens and when it was introduced, Pentax did not have SDM at all.

Actually it can be, that they will make the revised version of this lens, but I am a little bit puzzled about if it will be any good - 70-200 is a good example of the regression (and higer price tag) and it's not the only one.

Edit: they may definitely do it, because they are re-releasing the other lenses with OS.
