I saw one of these Stewart tanks for sale about 3 years ago that was running. It would come in handy with the 600mm f4 lenses or 800mm f4. Just trade out the gun for the lens!

If I had a big lens like that it's sorta what I'd do. Except I'd probably use a Jeep, and mount it on a machine gun rack

...and how much does a 600/4 cost

i was asked how much a 600/4 cost

well, there's a really wide pricerange out there
and 600-lenses are rare, very rare
i think the factory price was around 10k in the 90s

used - it will be around 3000-7000 depending on the condition of the lens,
if you can find one - but that's the point with Pentax they are really hard to find

you can order a brand new FA 600/4 at Pentax Japan, handmade and really expensive
i do not know the final price

the point with all highend lenses is, that the body becomes the "maginal" part in the
point off cost, compare to the lenseprice

so my tip is - allways look at the price for "lens + body"

if you mind the money, do not stick to pentax (sorry for this) but if you can get your hand
on a wellpriced Canon, Nikon or a Minolta - buy it and a have 2nd body on top

and do not forget to keep round about 1000 on top you will need it for the extra-sized
equiptment - bag, tripod, head, monopod, beanbag, lenscoat...etc.

sorry, i still haven't got a tripod or beanbag yet, to go out and shoot
it takes time to find the right gear

but i've used some pillows to ajust the AF
just to queck the AF at f 5.6 ISO 100

out of the window, on the roof of next house, you see the hole in that tube...

and thats the 100% crop out of this foto

so the AF works quite nice now
but... the lens produces "chromatische Aberrartions" in magenta + green

fyi to all on a related note... In my thread where jogiba got my picture of the 800/4 from, I have at least one photo that shows its size in relation to the 6x7 600/4. The 800/4 is a 45 lb lens.

And if anyone wants one, while it's not an F*, I think the price Adorama is selling them for is ridiculously affordable. If I remember correctly somewhere between $1500-$2000 for the 600/4 and between $3500-$4000 for the 800/4. (just check on Adorama's site) They are 6x7 lenses so you can only use it w/a K adapter, but still. ...I wish this was a few years ago when things were different and I had freedom w/my expenditures.

The prices on those MF lenses are going to skyrocket the moment the 645D is released.

I'm kicking myself I didn't buy an extra Voigtlander 125/2.5 or two a few years ago... maybe should consider these a similar kind of an investment and pull the trigger this time.

240mm f/1.2!!!! That's one of the most extreme lenses I have ever heard of! Anyone found any sample shots from this lens?
