I would go with the K, though in the real world maybe not that much difference

(I say this based on my recollection of the Modern or Popular Photo test of the M 135 when the M series was introduced, and they commented. I can dig the exact quote out for you.)

I don't know which is sharper but the M is perfectly useable at f3.5, and has the advantage of being both lighter and less bulky.

Both are probably excellent lenses from an optical perspective and both have excellent build. (Most 135s are pretty good.) Conventional wisdom on the Pentax Forums is that the K lenses are more desirable. The M is more compact.

The M 135/3.5 is very sharp and one of my favorite lenses, but in all fairness I've never used the K 135/3.5.

The K is just a bit sharper in the center. It really overachieves for a 4 element design, carried over from the S-M-C Takumar. I think the M is better all-around, and definitely wins on size and the slide-out hood.

I think Steve has summed it up well.

I actually have more M series glass than K series but in general I prefer the larger size, build quality and IQ of the K series in almost every case. I have to qualify this a bit as I don't have the M 85/2, M 20/4 or the M * 300/4.

After using both series for a number of years I would take a K lens over an M series in almost every instance. I have the K 135/3.5 and it is a fine lens. Not sprinkled with fairly dust like its faster K 135/2.5 cousiin perhaps but still a fine lens. I don't have the M 135/3.5 but I do have the M 150/3.5. Again this is a fine optic but I prefer the heft and images generated from the K 135/3.5. The colours seems deeper and more saturated than those from the M. I believe they are a bit sharper as well. In any case it is just a personal preference.
