I am getting confused.

Does it mean DA 12-24 @ 14mm is better than DA 14 @ 14mm, or otherwise?

Is the focusing distance and angle of view, etc of DA 12-24@ 14mm the same as DA14 @ 14mm?

What are you refering to?
I find that the DA 14 and DA 12-24 each have their advantages and disadvantages, personally I dont like this kind of choice, Id rather have one product be better and more expensive than another, then its just up to how much money you want to spend, ie 18-50 < 16-45 < 16-50 for instance.

Another way of me putting it, is that if I take a picture using DA 12-24 at 14mm, and I compared to one taken using DA 14, what distinct differences would I notice? or it is not too different at all?

Well that depends on your settings. if you take the picture at F4 then the da 12-24mm will be sharper in the corners of the image. if you take it at arounf f8 then the differences will be smaller.

Its more about the fact that with the da 14 you can focus closer, your viewfinder will be brighter, you can take pictures at f2.8. none of that is possible with the da 12-24, with the 12-24 you can zoom out to 12mm and in to 24mm which you of course cannot with the da 14. I dont remember about CA and vignetting off the top ofmy head.

why dont you just compare the photozone.de reviews

Also it seems to me that the DA 14 is inconsistent in QC, some people seem to hint that the later production runs of it has better quality than the early ones. I have read magazine reviews both saying its great and saying its not great and has disappointing optics, almost doesnt seem like they had an equally good sample.
