K 300/4 Opinions

I have been actively looking for an M* or A* 300/4 to obtain but have recently run across a K 300/4 locally and wondered if anyone had one and what their opinion of it was. Does anyone know how it compares to the M* or A* version. I know it is a different optical formula and is probably not as good but how good is it?

all the answers you need are in the lens data base. Just go to the home page and look down the menu for that section. The link is below for this lens. You can also check Stan's data base for even more.

Thanks, Peter. I forgot all about that....I have already consulted Stan site (Stan's Pentax Photography) but there is only one review there for the K.

I have the SMC Pentax 300F4.0 and have used it for about 15 years.

First bought it to use with my PZ1 along with the 1.7x autofocus TC.

Have since used it on my *istD and K10D with both the 1,7x AF TC and a 2x TC.

With the 1.7x it makes a 500 mmF6.8 lens. I have found that at extreme distances it does not always autoficus correctly, but with a flash for wild life on the *istD it works quite well.

Unfortunately the K10 cant flash meter with non Automatic lenses. At least yet. I have discussed a slight program change with Pentax on the freen button to allow flash metering. but I am not sure they will do it.

If you check under my name in the photo galery, you will even see it with a home made tripod mount. That is the biggest thing missing

I have the lens and use it occasionally. I've found it to be a good handling lens for its size and weight. Check out my review of it in the lens review section. I've links there to some of the shots I've made with it.

NaCl(good lens, decent price, biggest con is no 'pod mount )H2O
