using a Sears K Mount F4 80-200

I am having difficulty using this lens on my K100D. It hooks up fine but when I try to operate it, the F in the viewfinder blinks and the on button locks up.

What are the precedures to do in order for the lens to work. I did read the manual and checked a few web sites but am at a loss. I must be doing something wrong.

It won't take a photo until the picture is perfectly in focus. Also the F flashes since the lens is not sending information regarding aperture and focal length back to the camera due to the lack of contacts that arises from the lens' age.

Menu -> Custom Setting -> Using Aperture Ring -> Permitted

Menu -> Custom setting -> FI with S Lens -> Availiable

In order to use the lens, set the camera on Manual Mode. Focus and then turn the aperture ring to desired position. Press the "AE-L" button before you hit the shutter button. Pressing the button causes the camera to stop the lens down and take a light reading. (It then calculates the proper shutter speed to use).
