Quantaray maker ID help please.

I have had this Quantaray 85-210 F3.8 Macro m42 mount Zoom for a decade or so. It is unusual in that it has four adjustment rings - front to back: one for focus, one for zoom, one for macro (1:10-1:3), and one for aperture. Says lens made in Japan!

Has a pin that I can shim closed using the nylon tube from the end of a biro cartridge mentioned in other threads to make it permanently stopped down as there is no A/M switch.

As far as condition goes it is externally quite good foussing and zooming smoothly with solid click stops on all apertures and macro points and a snappy aperture operation. Some haze on one of its internal elements.

Anyone know who may have built it? - I have seen it listed in the Quantaray section of that huge list of M42 lenses that used to be on the web but with no parallel spec lens from any other third party lens manufacturer.

Anyone have any clues? Is it worth getting a CLA?

Sure looks very similar to the HELIOS MACRO 85-210MM F/3.8-22.0 shown here:
Helios Macro 85-210mm f/3.8-22.0 FM=170cm (Zoom) #147 - M42

Thank you for the pointer - It is in fact a Helios rebranded for Sears as a Quantaray

I now have a parent and a genealogy for my lens.

According to the experts on a couple of M42 forums Helios zoom lenses were in fact made by an 'unknown' Japanese third tier lens company and are not the quality of the Helios that is the Russian made prime.

Nice to know I have a Helios though - even from the less well bred part of the family.
