DA 40mm f2.8 LMT vs DA 35mm f2.8 LMT

Hi everyone,

I just bought a new K-7 and looking for a good prime lens besides the 16-45mm I currently have. The 16-45 works really well for me for landscape and wildlife pictures, but I do need a lens which provides sharp picture for portrait or indoor activities. I am considering two options as listed below:

- DA 40mm f2.8 LMT
- DA 35mm f2.8 LMT

I need advise from people who are currently using those lens. It would be greatly appreciated from me Thanks all

I tried both and I would prefer the DA40.

I owned them both....now I only own DA 40mm.

Unless you are using macro, I'd say, go for the DA 40mm.

Thanks Pentaxor and rams, I just purchased the 40mm with $349 from B&H. That's a huge difference between the prices of 40mm ($340) and 35mm ($550), so the price obviously convinces me to choose the 40mm over the 35mm.

In the field of IQ, someone stated that the sharpness at center focus with 35mm sligthly better than the 40mm. But the 40mm provides more sharpness at the corners more than the 35mm .... I don't use macro, and that thing is really not a matter to me.

I'd suggest the DA35... but it has one huge con... it's damn slow to AF (in low-light)... On the other hand, it's reduculously sharp wide open... and the close-focusing ability gets really usefull sometimes...

don't worry. once you get your hands on the 40mm, you won't complain anything about sharpness. it's darn good and darn fast. the sad thing about the 35 is it's slow focus due to it's construction for macro use.

IMO, the DA 35 is the superior lens optically - I sold my 40 once I got the 35.

The 40 is smaller & less expensive, and has the DA punch, like the 35.

I own both. I think the DA 35 is a little sharper, but I use it less. It is bigger, slower to focus and I just love the DA 40 as a walk around lens. In fact, I like the 40 so much that I got the 70 as well and love it too...
