Voted for the Tamron 28-75. I have it and have done a few tours solely with it. I wish it was wider, but then it would be slower.

Assuming you want a good, fast 70mm lens, prime or zoom, for general all-around use (disregard Macro ability) which would you choose for casual portrait, street, cityscapes, etc. For the zooms, consider the overall convenience, but put the emphasis on the the 70mm length.

If I've missed one in the range, please add it in the email comments. . Prices are from B&H as of today. Thanks,

Pentax 17-70 f/4 ($480)
Pentax 50-135 ($820 )
Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 ($570)
Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 ($460)
Pentax DA 70 f/2.4 ($550)
Pentax FA 77 f/1.8 ($785)
Sigma 70 f/2.8 ($500)
If you had allowed obsolete lenses into the list I would have added the FA24-90, in many ways the ideal walkaround zoom.

I love the 77mm for portraits but--for walk-around--it's my newly-acquired Tamron 28-75mm.

I empathize with your dilemma!

I currently have 3 of the lenses on your list (DA70, Sigma 70, Tamron 28-75). I picked the 28-75mm on your poll because you asked for "all around" use. But the DA70 is small, wonderful and fast focusing, and the Sigma is the sharpest lens I own.

I should sell one of the 3 I own so I can get a DA15, but I'm having a hard time making that decision...

FYI, I picked a zoom, because a prime in the 70mm range is not going to cut it as a walk around lens, sorry. It makes a great portrait lens, but not a walk around.
Same here. My "walkaround" primes are a Kiron 28mm/2 Pentax FA 35mm/2 and DA40ltd--around the "normal" FOV. I love the FA77/1.8 ltd, but it is too long for walkaround. It is easier to zoom in by cropping than to zoom out with your feet indoors or in cities.

I simply love my DA70, it easily produces the best images of my 3 lenses. I don't own any of the other lenses on that list though so can't directly compare.

The Sigma 17-70 should be there, since you list the Pentax 17-70 and since convenience is a criteria. Primes will deliver better results, expensive lenses like the 50-135 too, but for bangs-for-the-buck the Sigma is a great choice.
