Sigma 18-250mm OS HSM Arrived today

Here's a sample. No processing save for ACR conversion default.
Looks like a keeper so far. I really like the stabilized image in the viewfinder.

18mm f3.5

250mm f6.3

Wow, looks good. It is pretty nice ( and reassuring) to see the IS working through the viewfinder isn't it? What do you think of the HSM?

It seems a little faster than my Pentax 17-70, but I really just got it two hours ago, so not really enough time to say it is any for sure. The stabilized viewfinder image really helps me as I have a slight tremor and the more I am aware of it the worse it gets so in my case it not only counters the effects on the image, it actually allows me to be steadier.

Cool! Good to start seeing some shots from this lens. I think I'm set with the Pentax 18-250, but it's always nice to have alternatives, especially with HSM and OS.

I've had some real good luck with Sigma's. This looks like another good option.

After you sepnd some time I was wondering if you could share your experiences some of things I have read before

SR and OS together are no good use one or the other is this what you have found ?
How are the extreme lengths (18 and 250)
Is there zoom creep ?
Can you lock it at various lengths ?

The lens here in Canada is a stupid price I guess because we are such an isolated country and they have to recover those shipping costs (one place I checked had it for $849 .... roughly same price as DA* 16-60....)

I don't care about wide open as this would be an outdoor, good light, travel lens. Do you have any other zooms to compare IQ to overall ?

thx...........Dave

I have heard that too, but haven't tried it.

The top photo is 18mm and the bottom was at 250. I had read that at 200-250 sharpness wasn't all that good but mine seems quite respectable for a super zoom. I am pleasantly surprised.

Is there zoom creep ? None at all.
Can you lock it at various lengths ?
Zoom lock at 18mm only.

I have a DA 17-70, and I had a 55-300. I haven't done any side-by-side comparisons, but from the test shots I have done I would say that if there is any difference it would take fairly critical pixel peeping to see it.

thx...........Dave
Both pictures were with on board flash at max aperture. The notable thing there is that the AF worked fine indoors (my bike shop, typical fluorescent store lighting) at f6.3/250mm for the second one. No hunting, and none of the test shots I made were OOF.
