Help me! I'm going insane

I can't cope with this anymore. I have a DA 35 that I enjoy very much, but the FA 31 keeps calling my name. I hear it's voice all the time. I'm going crazy. Please, can anyone convince me I should not sell my DA 35 to finance the purchase of the "lady queen" and thus save my marriage. If not, give me a good reason to buy it so that I can put a stop to all this.

Hmm. You're also missing DA 70 in your collection.

I guess the fact that it is FF is a good argument in favour of the FA 31.

I see you don't have the FA 77 in your line up either.

Oops! sorry.

Yeah, you need a DA 70 first…

… and then a DA 15 or 21. After that you can start collecting FA Limiteds.

And you don't even have a fast wide angle lens

If you're sure the FA 31 will improve your shooting significantly, buy it. If not, don't. I too sometimes have to remember that gear is just the smallest step to a great image.

Yes, yes. I hear good things about Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 21mm f/2.8.

.

No, don't trade in your DA 35ltd for the 31 - just add these two to it!

(15 + 35 + 77 = the best possible combo!)

Will your FA 31 do macros?

Stop torturing me! I don't think I need a DA 70 since I already own a DA* 50-135. However, a FA 77 could be an option because it is significantly faster than the DA* 50-135. Plus, the FA 77 is full FF and this is very important to me.

Now, back to the FA 31. I want this lens for many reasons. First, I like the FOV of the DA 35 and the FA 31 offers a similar FOV. However, I often wish my DA 35 was faster and the FA 31 is more than one stop faster. My only fast lens is my FA 50, and I find it too long for the kind of indoor photography I do. Second, the FA 31 is FF capable. If Pentax ever goes FF, I'll be ready. In addition, 31mm is a usefull FOV in FF. Third, I like to use the DA 35 for macro (especially flowers), but since I also own a Tamron 90m macro, the macro capacity of the DA 35 is less important to me now. Plus, I think the FA 31 is also very good for close focus and the bokeh is better. Last but not the least, I like to keep my equipment forever. Even if the DA 35's built quality is impressive, I can't see myself owning that lens 10 or 15 years down the road. But with the FA 31, YES.

It's simple. I bought myself the FA31 and my wife a fridge/freezer. As the fridge/freezer was more expensive, I can still buy a FA77 without risking my relationship.

You're right: you're nuts but, if it's any help, you're not alone: every so often I get the urge to swap out my 31 for that 35 &/or my 77 for a 70. I'm making progress though--my lens collection has gone unchanged for over 36 hours.
