I love my 50-135, but it's SDM, anyone care to guess where it is right now?
Why do you guys keep breaking them?

The first time I put an SDM lens on my camera, I was surprised at the silence and figured something must have been broken. So I shook it violently until it made noise... Oh wait, no. I just put it in a closet...it died while asleep...

Haven't had any SDM problems with either my 16-50 nor 50-135. But being that I have never used my 50-135, that doesn't count.

I suspect that part of the reason you like it is because most people say, "that's not a useable focal length for portraits".
That's why I asked

I'll take it, if you're not using it.

m42 = 50mm f4 Macro-Tak

mf k = A 400mm f5.6

af k = DA 35mm ltd with the FA 77mm ltd a close second.

I could easily see why the 12-24 could be someone's "Precious", I spent a fair amount of time with the Sigma 10-20 but the 12-24 is really something wonderful.

For me, however, my 'Precious' is w/o a doubt the 35ltd...I do a LOT of product shots and have used a ton of macro lenses but none have ever come close to the flexibility and consistency of the 35ltd. Now, I love my 43ltd & 77ltd and the short couple weeks I had the 50-135 I could see it might have won me over, but I am not sure. Right now, I as all set to buy a new 35ltd but life happens and, well, it's put off for at least a few weeks now. And maybe longer if I have to also cut open my flooring to try and fond a heating duct problem this month sometime. Sigh...life is a real PITA don't "they" know these things are far more important than other stuff like a furnace, a dryer, and new/repaired ducting?

Don't say that around here Benji - it's heresy. They'll burn you at the stake.

I'm sure you would be really happy and dance a jig if on of your SDM lenses failed.

I have a slew of manual & autofocus lenses. My favorite is still the first lens I ever shot with..... M42 Takumar (Super-Multi-Coated or Super) 55mm f:1.8. If I were forced to have just one lens, that would be it.

My DA 35 Ltd.
Its my only limited lens so it might not be a fair competition.
Though I have been impressed with my two M series primes.

The 12-24mm gets the bulk of my use, followed by the f*300mm. I could get by with just those 2. Both produce excellent images.

My 12-24 for landscapes and scenery. However the FA31 for stitching (I need about 3x the images, but the results are pin point sharp). That said, there are many situations where stitching is not appropriate, thus the 12-24.
