Take the kit lens....

...extend it out to about 100mm or so, Add some kind of macro capability - does not need to be a "true" macro, open it up to at least 2.8, improved resolution compared to the kit, keep it as small and light as possible and I would be a happy camper.

My perfect lens:

A full frame compatible - all metal limited lens in the 76-78mm and f/1.7 - 1.9 range.

What's hilarious (or sad...) is that you can get the 50-135mm without SDM, if you switch to Canikon!
Tokina 50-135mm
You give up weather-sealing and SMC coatings as well, though.
Will the pentax elements fit in the Tokina lens?

Based on the comments I read, Canikonians want an in-lens motor in the Tokina 50-135 and think it focuses slow.

Be careful for what you wish... I hope they make the SDM design impervious to storage.

I heard many people complained a lot about the SDM issue with 50-135mm lens, but I haven't experienced any problem with it so far. Just wonder someday that nightmare will come and ruined my life ... Lol just K/D

WR Primes

I voted for a fast, wide prime. Every time I vote in one of these polls, it's always with this caveat: It must be * or WR. The places I take my gear would make many photographers' hearts flutter. I need sealing. I think Pentax is moving in the right direction with the WR kit lenses and WR version of the 100 macro. I'm hoping that the 'discontinuation' of the FA35 and FA50 may be signs of WR versions to come.

My dream lens list:
DA 15mm f/4.0 Limited WR
DA 21mm f/3.2 Limited WR
D-FA 35mm f/2.0 WR
D-FA 50mm f/1.4 WR

From 50mm on up we have the DA* zooms and long primes, and the new D-FA 100mm WR Macro. Heck, seal the 12-24. Seal the 14. Seal something for us on the wide end other than the kit zoom and I think a lot of us would be happy campers. And hikers. And climbers. And fishermen. And boaters. And... well, adventurers.

BTW, as far as I can tell, the DA* 55 f/1.4 is film friendly--except it doesn't have screw driven AF.

Yes, a wide angle weather sealed prime would be good and unique--Canon's weather sealed wide offerings are the wide L zooms.

Me too. I had the first worrying sign of SDM issues when the focus was stuck at first shot (but then no problem afterwards... a case of the thick lube syndrome???).

So my wish would be 50-135 with no SDM; or with SDM II, a ring-type motor.
A post script to my previous post. The SDM was intitially 'stuck' when I used it on my K100DS. Have had no problems whatsoever on the K20D. I wonder why this is? Does the lithium power give more juice to the motor?

I would happily just take some modern day "updates" to some old classics...

D-FA*31 1.8
D-FA*43 1.9
D-FA*77 1.8

full WR, SDM treatment.

Are you saying you don't like those lenses? Why else would you wish such a terrible fate upon them!

haha, I actually dont own those lenses... or have the funding the get them in the near term (I would want to start with the 31, which of course is the most expensive of the 3)

for me SDM has not been an issue... but...
for those who dont like it... make it SDM2 +WR

Thankfully with Pentax's industry-leading (in terms of brevity ) 1-year warranty, no one person will have to wait too long for that day to arrive!

This one.

If they made that in K-mount I would be a very happy camper. Ah well, Nikon is the closest brand to being Pentax that isn't Pentax, and that D90 shares the sensor I love. Eventually I'll probably be running two systems and they'll both be crop-sensor. :-D
