Lens cap for DA 40mm 2.8 Limited ?

I got suckered into LBA, and got a DA 40mm 2.8 ltd. Ok, not really suckered, it was a good advise as I loved the lens.

It came with screw on cap and hood. What should I best do? get a 49mm lens cap? or 30.5 opening?

I've already screwed on a 49mm filter, but do I really need it? the filter is like 1/3 the size of the lens.

thanks in advance

Those 30mm caps are what I have been using for some time with my DA 40. Work great.

You need the filter if if it's a polarizer and you're tryig to reduce reflections, or it's a ND filter and you're trying to reduce the amount of light, or if it's an orange filter and you're looking to correct a color cast. If it's just a UV "dealer profit protecting" filter, you don't need it.

As for lens caps, what's wrong with the one the lens came with? I prefer it over the alternatives I've tried. But some like using a Fuji film canister cap. I find it too fiddly. Mostly, I leave the cap off the lens, as the hood itself provides a decent mount of protection.

Marc,

There isn't anything wrong with the lens cap that came with. It's quite nicely built actually, but it's a screw on so it takes a screwing to put it on/off. clip ons are faster to use for me.

I have a UV filter on but the lens itself is actually quite tiny in diameter. I think i'll try leave the hood on and do without UV filter, as you suggest. I have UV filter on my other lens all the time so I dont touch the lens, since I'm kind of clumsy..

I recommend the Fuji film canister. That lens cap is so small that it's so easy to lose
