Hi Ben
I only have two techniques.
One, to use a camouflage net and crawl after the birds... the second is to use a "blind-chair" and set it on spots where previously I observe the birds and that I might get lucky.
99% of my images are with the camouflage net since here there is a lot of food and water all year long and we can't attract birds with food
So we have to pursue them...
(that was one reason I went for this lens and not 300/2.8 or 500/4.5 due to weight)
On this day I was kind of stressed because we are having always rain and terrible wind so I desperately wanting sun had to set for the blind because it was raining and hope to get lucky.
You can see some rain in the image I posted first.
Only got a couple of good images that day but I like them.
I'm still testing the lens and it's good. I think I made a great acquisition.
I'm still learning/growing this lens.

Oi Pentax - DA* 400 NOW!
I don't need one anymore
A sample from today
(Light was very high because I only went out around 13h00 because I needed to sleep to recover from a cold
)
My previous DA*300/4 only had two things better, first one was the better weather resistent and it did not present any purple fringing.
FA*400/5.6 presents some PF
sometimes at f5.6 on extreme conditions specially when I tested it with the 1.4 tamron adapter (it does AF well) but since I mostly shoot raw that is not a problem.
(
I will keep away from SDM )
