PENTAX 18-250mm VS QUANTARAY 70-300mm@250mm

Before I get started let me state for the record that i really like my Pentax 18-250mm lens. It's the lens that I have 0n my k20d nearly 100% of the time.
My better half got me the Quantaray 70-300mm lens for Christmas and I decided to compare the 2 at 250mm.I had theQuantaray once before but I sold it with my old K10d Pentax a couple of years ago and since then I kind of missed it.It had a special place in my heart . Several years ago i took a picture of jet liner with contrails flying by the moon (Pentax User Photo Gallery - Miscellaneous Photos ) and it got me picture of the week in the nationally published Parade Magazine using the Quantaray.
The following pictures were taken from the same spot.At 250mm the Quantaray does a little better but you really have to crop it to see the difference. For $149 it does a decent job plus it's also macro.
For everyday use the Pentax 18-250 is the lens for me.For sports (Red Sox at Fenway Park) or birding i'll probably use the Quantaray.
I have a feeling that when I eventually get the Sigma 55-500 (Bigma) the Quantaray will end up in storage but not forgotten---charliezap

I think the Quantaray is a re-labeled Sigma. The Pentax superzoom is a Tamron design.

For an entry level zoom lens it's not a bad bang for the buck.

Would have liked to see the Sigma compared with the Pentax DA 55-300, however, this is interesting none the less.

Heh. I actually took a photo with one at a photo gear show. The Sigma rep said that the military was interested (or bought one or two, I forgot).

Depends on what day you bought it. The ones sold with a 62mm filter are Tamron; the ones with a 58mm filter are Sigma.
