seeing sites in another language is always good because there's more emphasis in looking at the pictures to arrive at the conclusion. good link.

Hi;

It was difficult to include more lenses cause 7 lens is too much too...
And i think the J-9 would be bitted by the other;

But you can found one comparison between Helios 40 and J-9 here

Yes, very instructive site. Thanks.

I agree with the leica like the clear winner. But zeiss and pentax are really very very good too. The samyang, well, plenty of aberrations (relation between price-IQ? It seems to be).

The jupiter 9 isn't a len for that tests, because the particular IQ of "he" shows in pics, with the skin textures, his high sharpness from F/4, his particular palette, his own character. For my (a real fan of the summilux M 75) it's a great pic taker. In SRL is my portraits (people, animals and things) lens. In the test mentioned we can see some lens with traditional and very fine images. The 1932 jupiter formula is another thing, I consider.

Rino.

Thanks for Lazare

Yep, i think Jup'9 is not the same sort of lens as the other; and the biotar 75 or a helios 40 too

Next week, the second part of the Test, with portrait and bokeh and conclusion.

(but i can say one think now, is that the Samyang gives a lot of things fot that price.
It's really a good affair, in my opinion.

I get the impression that in the "chromatic aberration" test, the focus distances are not the same. This, to my eye, practically nullifies the results...
I like the comparisons, though.

Hum; we try to make the same focus distance for all lenses; with k20d + K3 focusing screen.

But, the fail is human...

This is an excellent test. Also, I think, it somewhat confirms my own hesitation to take lab tests (like the test target shots) too seriously. If you have a look at the test target shots the FA* looks not really good. But the real world shots show much less of a difference between the lenses - even the Samyang looks much better, than the lab shots suggest. It may have to do a lot with shooting distace. And I don't aim at poor focus or other mistakes, but at the fact, that lens tests should be done at a healthy distance between the lens and the target, namely in the vicinity of 20-30 times the focal length.

Another option would be, to shoot at the typical distance, which is easy to to with a typical portrait lens like the 85mm ones, which you have done with your test targets (at 3.5m if I understand correctly). But in a portrait lens we usually do not look for highest resolution (the subject to be photographed may even wish for a less than tack sharp image!), but for an overall pleasing and natural look. So, colour rendition, bokeh etc. would take priority.

Absolute resolution tests should, in my opinion, always done at infinite distances, i.e. with the help of a collimator. An artificial star (double star preferrably) is a good target, which allows to measure absolute resolution righ down to the optical resolution limit, without too much effort.

--

These are just a couple of thoughts, which I find appropriate here. But in no way, would I wish to diminish your work or your results. The whole site is very nice.
